About Warsaw Nike Clematis

‘Warsaw Nike’ is the English name for the Polish clematis cultivar ‘Warszawska Nike’, a deciduous climber with velvety deep purple-violet flowers and golden stamens. The [breeder's encyclopedia](https://www.clematis.com.pl/encyklopedia/?tx_plant_pi1%5Bplant%5D=258) lists flowering from June through September and a mature height of 2–3 m; [RHS Plants](https://www.rhsplants.co.uk/plants/_/clematis-warszawska-nike/classid.2000006222/) confirms the English synonym and a 1 m spread. ## Flowers and placement Train this cultivar over a fence, wall, arch, or trellis. It grows in full sun or light shade; shade the root zone and use fertile, moist, well-drained soil. The RHS also lists it for a large container with enough room to keep roots cool. ## Growth and pruning The breeder records the selection as raised by Stefan Franczak in Poland and recommends light pruning. RHS classifies it as Group 2 or 3, so retain the cultivar-specific pruning label when following local guidance rather than treating it as a hard-pruning Group 3 vine. ## Maintenance Water during dry spells, especially while establishing, and keep the roots cool and moist. In early spring remove dead or damaged stems and trim remaining growth to strong buds, using the light-pruning approach described by the breeder.
