Create design onlineAbout Chocolate Covered Cherry Coleus
Chocolate Covered Cherry is a compact, seed-grown coleus prized for rose-pink leaf centers framed by deep mahogany and a narrow green margin. Its small scale and layered foliage make it useful for edging, containers, and the front of mixed beds in sun or shade.
## Foliage and size
The [2026–27 PanAmerican Seed catalog](https://catalog.panamseed.com/view/445948364/40/) lists this exact Premium Sun selection at 12–14 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide, and describes its rose, mahogany, and green pattern. Clemson Extension independently identifies the same color sequence, notes that it grows in sun or shade, and reports a height up to 14 inches. The catalog’s size labels are retained; the existing metric height and width are approximate rounded values.
## Siting
Use a planter or small garden where the foliage can be seen close up. PanAmerican Seed says its Premium Sun coleus can tolerate full sun in humid regions and that all are suitable for shade; in hot, dry air, provide some afternoon protection. Coleus generally needs well-drained soil, and Clemson recommends keeping the root zone moist without leaving it waterlogged.
## Maintenance
Water at planting, then water when the upper inch of soil is dry. Containers can dry faster than beds, so check them more often. Pinch young shoots to encourage branching, and protect this tender coleus from frost. Cuttings can be kept indoors for the next season; see Clemson Extension’s [coleus growing guidance](https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/coleus/).
