About Wasabi Coleus

Wasabi is a foliage coleus with bright lemon-lime leaves that hold their color in both sun and shade. Its registered cultivar name is ‘UF0843’; Wasabi is the trade name used for this selection ([cultivar patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/US20120260376P1/en), [Canadian registration](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/cole/app00008409e.shtml)). ## Garden use Use the chartreuse foliage as a bright accent in garden beds or containers. University of Florida’s patent describes vigorous growth, upright habit, exceptional branching, and good tolerance of sun and heat. Clemson’s coleus guide also notes that Wasabi performs in sun or shade and has deeply lobed chartreuse leaves ([Clemson Extension](https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/coleus/)). ## Growing conditions Choose sun or shade to suit the planting. In bright locations, the cultivar’s lemon-lime color is selected to remain vivid. Water according to conditions and watch container plants during hot weather. ## Maintenance Pinch stems to shape the plant or encourage a fuller outline. Coleus is grown for foliage, so remove flower spikes when they appear if you want to keep the display focused on leaves.
