About Giant Yarey Palm

Giant yarey palm (*Copernicia fallaensis*) is an accepted Cuban species and a tree of the wet tropical biome. Naples Botanical Garden describes a smooth, light-gray trunk, waxy blue-green fan fronds, full-sun placement, and a mature height that can reach 60 ft; give it generous overhead and lateral room. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:666252-1) · [Naples Botanical Garden](https://www.naplesgarden.org/florida-landscaping-101-right-palm-right-spot/) ## Form and placement The broad, flat leaf stalks may be nearly white, contrasting with the gray trunk and blue-green crown. The garden source recommends full sun and well-drained soil, and notes that young palms can become much larger as they mature. Choose a warm site with clear sky above the crown and enough distance from buildings, wires, and walkways for a very tall solitary palm. ## Landscape use This is a long-lived architectural tree for spacious tropical or subtropical landscapes, not a small-yard palm. Kew’s record places the species in Cuba’s wet tropical biome, while Naples Botanical Garden reports successful South Florida landscape use and describes it as cold hardy and drought resistant. Those observations do not establish a universal hardiness zone; consider local freeze history and establishment conditions before planting elsewhere. ## Maintenance Keep drainage free-flowing and avoid crowding the crown. Plan access for mature height and use local palm-care guidance for any pruning.
