Cordyline Design-A-Line™ is the named selection ‘ROMA06’ PP24764, a Cordyline pumilio × C. banksii hybrid grown for cascading burgundy foliage. Its arching, clumping growth works in containers, along walls or walkways, and as an accent or mixed-border plant; the foliage provides burgundy color through the year.
## Size and exposure
The [Sunset Western Garden Collection profile](https://sunsetplantcollection.com/the-collection/plant/design-a-line/) lists the plant at about 3 feet tall and wide and hardy in USDA zones 8–11. It recommends full coastal sun to part shade in hotter climates. The [cultivar patent text](https://www.hort.net/pedia/patent/grant/24764/) reports 0.8 m in height and width after four years, while the Sunset profile rounds the dimensions to 3 feet.
## Soil and water
Use well-drained soil. The Sunset profile describes the selection as water-wise once established and recommends occasional watering as needed; its [patent description](https://www.hort.net/pedia/patent/grant/24764/) adds that moderate watering is useful during growth and that established plants are drought tolerant. The patent’s cultivar description also specifies moist, well-drained soil during growth, so avoid prolonged dryness while a new planting establishes.
## Flowers and landscape use
Small white blossoms are reported by the cultivar profile and patent; the [patent description](https://www.hort.net/pedia/patent/grant/24764/) describes them as vanilla-scented. Burgundy leaves are the principal display, and the cascading habit softens container edges, walls, and walkways. Sunset also lists border, garden bed, mass planting, poolside, and slope uses.
## Maintenance
Apply a balanced fertilizer during the growing season as directed by the product label. Trim damaged foliage at the base when needed. Once established, water occasionally according to weather and soil drainage.
