About Nana Coreopsis (Tickseed) Plant

Coreopsis auriculata ‘Nana’, often called dwarf or ear-leaved tickseed, is a low-growing native perennial with bright yellow, notched daisy flowers and green foliage. [NC State Extension’s exact cultivar profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/coreopsis-auriculata-nana/common-name/ear-leaved-tickseed/) describes a 6–9 inch plant that spreads slowly by underground stems, with spring flowers and occasional summer rebloom. The [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/coreopsis-auriculata-nana-dwarf-eared-coreopsis) independently records the cultivar and USDA zones 4–9. ## Form and placement The compact foliage forms a useful low layer beneath taller plants. Use Nana at a border front, as an edging plant, or as a spreading groundcover where its modest size and yellow spring flowers can be seen. It can also help fill open soil around taller perennials. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. The established zone range is 4–9. Published height estimates differ: NC State reports 6–9 inches, while the existing catalog held 1 foot; the height point is cleared and the display range follows the exact-cultivar extension profile. The current 0.4 m spread point remains plausible below the reported slow spread to about 2 feet. ## Maintenance Water during dry periods, especially while plants establish. Divide clumps when needed to renew a planting or control its gradual spread, and allow space for the underground stems to fill in.
