Coreopsis 'Firefly'

‘Firefly’ is a compact Coreopsis with bright yellow flowers and dark red eyes above fine green foliage. The mounding plant flowers through summer and fall and suits the front of sunny borders or mixed containers. It is a deciduous perennial selected for compact growth and winter hardiness. ## Form and flowers The [TERRA NOVA profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/coreopsis-firefly/) lists a 10-inch plant height, 12-inch flowering height, and 15-inch spread, with bloom from June through October and USDA Zones 5–10. The [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP26295P3/en) confirms the cultivar name ‘Firefly’, its yellow flowers with dark red eyes, and its compact mounding form. The patent describes its breeding background as two unnamed Coreopsis verticillata hybrids; the breeder’s product page leaves the species unspecified. ## Siting and care Grow in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Allow room for the plant to spread about 15 inches and avoid persistently wet ground. ## Maintenance The breeder describes ‘Firefly’ as easy to grow and resistant to powdery mildew. Trim faded stems or winter-damaged foliage in late winter to prepare for new growth.
