About Baby Sun Tickseed

Baby Sun is a compact tickseed with solitary golden-yellow flowers and red or maroon markings near the center. It flowers through much of summer and forms a low perennial clump for borders, containers, or cut flowers. ## Form and flowers The [University of Illinois Extension](https://web.extension.illinois.edu/hortanswers/plantdetail.cfm?PlantID=716&PlantTypeID=2) lists ‘Baby Sun’ among Coreopsis grandiflora cultivars, with single yellow flowers marked red and a typical height of 12–18 inches. [Ebert’s Greenhouse](https://www.ebertsgreenhouse.com/Plant-Name/Coreopsis-Sonnenkind-Baby-Sun-Coreopsis) lists a 12–15-inch height, 10–12-inch spread, and Zones 4–9. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/117706/coreopsis-baby-sun/details) also records ‘Sun Child’ as a synonym and describes the yellow, maroon-centered flowers. ## Siting and care Grow in full sun or light partial shade in well-drained soil. Keep the plant watered during extended dry spells. Published size and hardiness ranges vary among sources, so use the local growing conditions when choosing a site. ## Maintenance Deadhead to encourage continued flowering, then cut back the perennial foliage in winter. Divide established clumps every few years if they lose vigor.
