Coreopsis 'Lightning Bug'

Coreopsis 'Lightning Bug' is a compact, low mound of green foliage covered with gold flowers marked by red centers. TERRA NOVA lists this exact selection as patent PP27361 and sizes it at about 10 inches tall by 15 inches wide, with flowering from June into October. [TERRA NOVA's Lightning Bug profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/coreopsis-lightning-bug/) provides the cultivar, size, color, and growing details. ## In the Garden Use it at the front of a sunny mixed border, in a container, or in a mass where its warm flowers can be seen close up. The breeder describes a self-cleaning bloom display and a mounding habit, and notes that bees and butterflies visit the flowers. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun and average, well-drained soil. The listed hardiness range is USDA zones 5–10. Water to establish, then adjust to weather and soil drainage; the grower profile lists average garden water needs. ## Maintenance Allow room for a compact mound to fill out. Remove spent stems or tidy the plant as needed, and avoid leaving the crown in persistently wet soil.
