SIZZLE & SPICE™ 'Crazy Cayenne' Threadleaf Tickseed

Crazy Cayenne is a named Coreopsis verticillata selection in the SIZZLE & SPICE® series. Its fiery orange flowers have red-orange centers and golden undersides, above fine gray-green foliage; Walters Gardens describes its habit as a compact, rounded mound. Published mature size is 15–18 inches tall by 22–26 inches wide, with hardiness in Zones 5–9. [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=CORCZ) ## Landscape Use Use this long-flowering selection in sunny borders, mass plantings, or cut-flower beds. Its orange and red tones are strongest from early through late summer, and the compact mound works near the front or middle of a perennial planting. ## Growing Conditions Provide full sun and well-drained soil. Walters Gardens lists low to average water needs; water consistently while plants establish, then reduce irrigation as conditions allow. Ball Seed reports Zones 5a–9b and notes bee and butterfly attraction, heat and drought tolerance, and deer resistance. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers for a tidier display and cut back old foliage in spring. Drought tolerance applies once established, so do not let newly planted crowns dry out. The sources give slightly different spread ranges; the breeder’s profile lists 22–26 inches and that range is used here.
