Hot Paprika is a named Coreopsis verticillata cultivar in Walters Gardens’ SIZZLE & SPICE® series, identified by the breeder as PP28522. Deep red flowers cover a compact, rounded mound of bright green threadleaf foliage. Walters Gardens lists a mature height of 15–18 inches, a spread of 22–26 inches, and hardiness in Zones 5–9; Darwin Perennials gives a narrower 22–24-inch spread and Zone 5a–9b. ## Landscape Use
Plant Hot Paprika in full-sun borders, mass plantings, or cut-flower beds. The breeder reports flowering from early through late summer, so it can provide a long warm-color display in a mixed perennial planting.
## Growing Conditions
Use well-drained soil and water during establishment. Walters Gardens lists low to average water needs, while Darwin Perennials describes light water needs. Once established, Coreopsis can tolerate drier intervals, but newly planted plants still need regular attention.
## Maintenance
Remove spent blooms when a neat appearance or continued flowering is desired. Cut back the old stems in spring as new growth begins. Its mature spread varies by source; allow roughly two feet or more of room. [Darwin Perennials](https://www.darwinperennials.com/Products/Details/?phid=018907644035029)
