About Prairie Pink Flowering Dogwood

Prairie Pink is a pink-bracted selection of flowering dogwood, with soft pink to reddish-pink spring color around yellow-green centers. The tree carries glossy foliage after flowering and is offered for a broad range of gardens across USDA zones 5–9. ## Form and flowering This deciduous native tree is reported at 15–30 feet tall with a similar spread. Its showy bracts appear in April and May, then the canopy provides summer shade and fall interest. The nursery describes this selection as a flowering tree with medium maintenance and medium water needs. ## Placement Plant in full sun to part shade, allowing space for the canopy to develop. Flowering dogwoods prefer rich, well-drained soil; avoid sites that remain waterlogged. Pink-bracted forms can perform poorly in the warmest part of the species’ range, so use local guidance when planting in zones 8–9. Keep foliage as dry as practical when irrigating, and inspect for dogwood borers, leaf spots, and anthracnose. Remove dead or damaged branches with clean pruning cuts.
