Stellar Pink Flowering Dogwood

Stellar Pink® is the flowering dogwood cultivar ‘Rutgan’ in the Stellar series, identified by the [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/183806/cornus-%C3%97-rutgersensis-stellar-pink-rutgan-stellar-series/details) as Cornus × rutgersensis and by [J. Frank Schmidt](https://jfschmidt.com/all-trees/trees/stellar-pink-dogwood/) as Cornus × ‘Rutgan’. Its overlapping pink bracts surround small central flower clusters, and its green leaves turn purplish red in autumn. Size estimates differ between sources: RHS lists 4–8 m tall and 2.5–4 m wide, while J. Frank Schmidt lists 20 feet for both height and spread. The existing 15–20-foot labels remain a useful approximate planning range, and the numeric values are preserved. J. Frank Schmidt lists USDA zone 6; RHS recommends full sun or partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. ## Maintenance Plant in full sun or partial shade with room for a small tree’s mature crown. Keep soil moist but well drained, particularly while the tree establishes. Preserve the root zone from prolonged drying and avoid pruning unless needed for structure.
