Coronet™ Salmon Red Eye is a compact annual dianthus with salmon-coral flowers centered by a darker red eye. The breeder first listed this color in its Corona™ F1 series; current PanAmerican Seed materials use Coronet™ F1 for Salmon Red Eye. The plant is Dianthus chinensis. [PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/documents/catalogs/17544_PASKieft_2019_NewVariety_FINAL_LR.pdf) · [Ball Seed](https://www.ballseed.com/WEBTRACKPLANTINFO.ASPX?PHID=022509158018558&env=P) · [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/dianthus-chinensis/)
## Flowers and form
The F1 series produces multiple flowers on compact, mounded plants. PanAmerican lists plants at 8–10 inches tall and wide, with 2–3-inch flowers and best performance in cool weather. The distinctive salmon or coral petals have a darker red center. Salmon Red Eye is a trade color designation within the series rather than a single-quoted botanical cultivar name.
## Siting
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil; provide afternoon shade in warmer climates. Use the compact habit in containers, borders, or cool-season beds. NC State notes that China pinks are commonly grown as annuals where hot, humid summers limit performance.
## Maintenance
Deadhead or trim after a heavy flush to encourage additional flowering. Keep the root zone evenly moist without leaving the plant in poorly drained soil.
