Sonata™ Red Shades Cosmos

Sonata™ Red Shades is an upright garden cosmos selected for red-toned flowers and a compact scale suited to pots and the front of a sunny border. PanAmerican Seed lists a height of 24 inches, a spread of 12–14 inches, full sun, and flowering from spring through late summer; the product is identified as PAS1249221. ## Garden placement Use this annual where finely divided foliage and open flowers can soften a bed edge, fill a small patio pot, or add color to a cutting garden. The breeder recommends 5–6-inch containers and notes that Sonata is selected to flower in packs and pots. Its listed 12–16-inch planting spacing can help keep neighboring plants from crowding the airy habit. ## Growing conditions Give it full sun and average, freely draining garden soil. Cosmos are generally easy from seed, and avoiding excess water and fertilizer supports flowering. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowerheads regularly to encourage additional blooms. Allow room for airflow and water during prolonged dry spells while keeping the soil from becoming waterlogged.
