About Coral Beauty Cotoneaster

Coral Beauty is a low, spreading cotoneaster with dense glossy evergreen foliage, clusters of small white flowers, and bright orange to orange-red berries. It provides year-round groundcover and late-season fruit, with mature size varying among regional listings. ## Landscape role Use Coral Beauty on a bank, along a wall, or at the front of a shrub border. The [RHS profile under *Cotoneaster dammeri*](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/30744/cotoneaster-dammeri-coral-beauty/details) describes a dense mound about 0.5–1 m tall and 1.5–2.5 m wide. Taxonomic treatments differ: [Oregon State University](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/cotoneaster-dammeri) and the current [RHS garden guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/cotoneaster/border-shrubs) also treat Coral Beauty as *Cotoneaster × suecicus*. The named selection is retained while that species-level disagreement is made clear. ## Siting & care Grow in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. The RHS advises regular water during establishment, then less frequent watering once roots are established; avoid waterlogged sites. White flowers appear in summer in the dammeri profile, while its [newer garden listing](https://www.rhsplants.co.uk/plants/_/cotoneaster--suecicus-coral-beauty/classid.2000041209/) places the main display from late spring into early summer. ## Maintenance Allow enough room for the mature spread. After flowering, lightly shorten branches that disrupt the outline; remove damaged or crowded growth, and avoid hard pruning that would reduce flowers and berries. The berries are ornamental and should not be eaten.
