About Lowfast Spreading Cotoneaster

Lowfast cotoneaster is an evergreen, mat-forming groundcover with glossy dark green leaves, small white spring flowers, and abundant red fruit. It spreads quickly and is suited to banks, berms, wall edges, and other areas where a low evergreen cover is useful. ## Landscape role Allow room for the mat to travel across a bank or berm, or cascade over a retaining wall or rock edge. [Oregon State University’s cultivar profile](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/cotoneaster-dammeri-lowfast) reports a 12–15 in mature height and 10–15 ft width, while its [species-level selection notes](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/cotoneaster-dammeri) give a 6–10 in height. [Kigi Nursery](https://kiginursery.com/dwarf-miniatures/cotoneaster-dammeri-lowfast-spreading-cotoneaster/) lists a smaller 10-year average size. The spread varies considerably by source and growing period, so treat the existing approximate width as a planning guide rather than a fixed maximum. ## Siting & care Use full sun to partial shade and ordinary, well-drained garden soil. Oregon State reports average water needs. Water through establishment, then avoid standing water; watch the edge where vigorous stems may extend beyond their allotted space. ## Maintenance Prune lightly when the mat grows into paths or other plantings, and remove damaged or congested stems. Periodically clear debris from within the low branches and keep its outward spread within the intended area.
