Create design onlineAbout Cotyledon (genus)
This profile retains the genus Cotyledon without selecting a species or cultivar. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:30005010-2) accepts this genus and recognizes multiple species. Lewisia cotyledon is a different genus; a matching epithet does not identify this source plant.
## Queensland Appendix E — qualified groundcover genus context
The [2020 Queensland guidance](https://www.qra.qld.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-12/0576_qra_bushfire_guideline_v10_pages_print.pdf), printed page 134, lists Cotyledon in its ground covers and creeping-plants section without naming a member. The association is restricted to that printed context; it does not classify every Cotyledon as a groundcover, select shrub-form C. orbiculata or the catalog's named Chocoline product, or establish the fire behavior of all members. Intended species, clone and actual mature habit remain unresolved.
Appendix E is general guidance. It requires independent research into local fire resistance and suitability, which vary across Queensland, and says all plants can burn under extreme heat or flame. No numerical score, tested flammability level or individual assessment of every category member is inferred. Maintain appropriate watering, spacing and removal of dead material, and retain this source separately from other regional assessments.
## San Luis Obispo County — qualified shrub-genus context
The [January 2014 county list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list), page 9, prints Cotyledon (Varieties) as shrubs with F2. Page 29 defines F2 as favorable, most fire-retardant plants for placement 30–70 feet from a structure. This is the source’s genus-context rating, not an assessment of every species or cultivar. The separate note C. orbiculata var. flanaganii is preserved as printed, without selecting it or resolving its current identity. Queensland’s groundcover context above remains distinct. Follow the county’s watering, spacing and dead-material-removal conditions. No individual member’s fire behavior is verified; other regional ratings remain separate.
