Silver dollar crassula is a branching succulent shrub or small tree with a thick trunk and rounded, waxy blue-gray leaves. [SANBI](https://pza.sanbi.org/crassula-arborescens) reports outdoor plants reaching around 3 m. The species contains more than one subspecies, including the wavy-leaved subsp. undulatifolia; this record is unqualified and does not select one form.
The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/4716/crassula-arborescens/details) describes smaller container specimens and recommends full light, cactus compost, moderate watering in active growth and little water in winter. Protect from freezing and persistent wetness. Pink flowers may be sparse on pot-grown plants. Seed, stem cuttings and leaf cuttings are propagation options. This is distinct from the common jade plant, Crassula ovata. Foliage persistence can vary with conditions and loss of older leaves.
The [San Luis Obispo County January 2014 plant list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list) explicitly names Crassula arborescens in its Crassula notes and assigns F2. This source category identifies its most fire-retardant plants for the 30–70-foot band from a structure. It is not a guarantee against burning. The county conditions the rating on suitable soil moisture, avoiding crowding, removing dead material, separated planting groups and preventing ground-to-canopy fuel connections. The rating belongs to the named identity, without extending it to other species or cultivars.
