Pagoda crassula is a low succulent with densely arranged, pointed leaves that can become red in bright, dry conditions. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:878737-1) accepts Crassula capitella subsp. thyrsiflora and lists Crassula corymbulosa, the county source name, among its synonyms. This record retains the subspecies, rather than applying its rating to every form of Crassula capitella.
The [Royal Horticultural Society’s horticultural account under C. corymbulosa](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/247493/crassula-corymbulosa/details) describes spiraling foliage, tiny white flowers and flowering stems around 30 cm. It recommends bright light, gritty cactus compost, moderate watering in active growth and very little water in winter. A [SANBI flora account](https://biodiversityadvisor.sanbi.org/search/detail/fb00f47d-9e57-4933-955f-a516ad06b195?index=bodatsa_20260331) describes annual material under this subspecies, while the RHS garden account describes a perennial. Persistence should therefore be checked for the material grown; renew aging plants from cuttings rather than expecting a permanent carpet.
The [San Luis Obispo County January 2014 plant list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list) explicitly names Crassula corymbulosa in its Crassula notes and assigns F2. This source category identifies its most fire-retardant plants for the 30–70-foot band from a structure. It is not a guarantee against burning. The county conditions the rating on suitable soil moisture, avoiding crowding, removing dead material, separated planting groups and preventing ground-to-canopy fuel connections. The rating belongs to the named identity, without extending it to other species or cultivars.
