Watch chain crassula is a small scrambling succulent whose stems are closely covered in tiny, scale-like leaves. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:273260-1) treats Crassula lycopodioides as a synonym of Crassula muscosa var. muscosa. The county prints “lycopodiodes”; this is interpreted as that familiar former name, with the spelling inference retained here.
The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/253063/crassula-muscosa-var-muscosa/details) describes a dense bush around 25 cm tall, with small greenish-yellow flowers. Grow in full light and freely draining cactus compost. Water moderately during growth and sparingly in winter; protect from freezing. It can be propagated by stem or leaf cuttings. Mealybugs, aphids and vine weevil may occur. This record retains the typical botanical variety.
The [San Luis Obispo County January 2014 plant list](https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/planning-building/forms-documents/environmental-forms-and-documents/plants-information/county-approved-plant-list) explicitly names Crassula lycopodiodes in its Crassula notes and assigns F2. This source category identifies its most fire-retardant plants for the 30–70-foot band from a structure. It is not a guarantee against burning. The county conditions the rating on suitable soil moisture, avoiding crowding, removing dead material, separated planting groups and preventing ground-to-canopy fuel connections. The rating belongs to the named identity, without extending it to other species or cultivars.
