Cockspur Hawthorn (*Crataegus crus-galli*) is a dense deciduous tree or large shrub valued for spring flowers, summer shade, fall color, and persistent red fruit. Its horizontal, dense branching can create shade and works in a hedge or screen where there is room for the broad crown. The species is thorny, so keep it away from narrow paths and play areas.
