Snowbird is a flowering hawthorn grown for its fragrant, double spring blossoms and red fruit. Published mature dimensions differ, but the current approximate size fits a documented range for the exact cultivar.
## Flowers, fruit, and foliage
The Chicago Botanic Garden describes Snowbird’s scented, double pinkish-white flowers in May and June, followed by red fruit; its glossy green leaves turn yellow in fall. An Okanagan Xeriscape Association profile gives a mature range of roughly 13–18 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide, which supports the current approximate 16-by-12-foot dimensions. Another nursery profile lists a taller figure, so actual size can vary with site and growing conditions. The tree is thorny, making it more suitable for a lawn, screen, or spacious border than a narrow walkway. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil.
The Chicago Botanic Garden lists USDA Zones 3–7 and recommends the plant for specimen, hedge, and screening uses. ## Maintenance
Provide adequate room for the crown and avoid planting where thorns will contact passersby. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed and preserve the tree’s natural form.
