Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ is a clump-forming perennial with pleated, swordlike leaves and arching stems of tubular red flowers in midsummer. It suits a sunny mixed border or cutting garden, where the bright flowers rise above lower plants. The RHS reports 1.5–2.5 metres tall and 0.1–0.5 metres wide, while Walters Gardens lists 36–42 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide; plan for the larger site conditions.
## Growing Conditions
Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil and average moisture. The RHS notes that flowering may be reduced in deep shade and that plants can be stunted when summer soil becomes too dry. Walters Gardens lists USDA zones 5–9; the RHS H5 rating uses a separate UK system.
## Maintenance
Water new plants through their first growing season and during prolonged drought. Divide established clumps every few years if they become crowded or flowering declines. In colder parts of the listed range, use winter protection appropriate to local conditions.
