About Prince of Orange Crocosmia

‘Prince of Orange’ is a clump-forming Crocosmia with upright, sword-shaped leaves and vivid orange flowers in mid- to late summer. The blooms show yellow stamens and a yellow throat marked with red dots, followed by decorative seed pods. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/311327/crocosmia-prince-of-orange/details) reports a mature height of 0.5–1 m and spread of 0.1–0.5 m. ## Flowers and placement Use the tall flower stems in a sunny or partly shaded border, prairie-style planting, or cut-flower garden. The foliage forms a green clump beneath the summer flower spikes. Allow about 1.6–3.3 ft of height and 4–20 in of spread; mature size varies with growing conditions. ## Growing conditions Plant corms in fertile, humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains well. A sandy or loamy bed in full sun or partial shade suits this cultivar. In colder locations, choose a sheltered position and mulch the planting in winter. ## Maintenance Remove dead leaves and flower stems in autumn or before new spring growth begins. Divide congested clumps in early spring to maintain healthy growth and control their spread.
