Cryosophila kalbreyeri is a solitary palm native from southeastern Panama to Colombia. Kew records it as a tree of the wet tropical biome, and Colombian flora references place it from sea level to 1,200 metres and record local names including barbasco, palma barbasco and palma escoba. See [Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:666356-1/general-information) for its accepted name, native range, habitat and linked flora accounts.
## Range and habit
Colombian references describe the habit as shrub, tree or solitary palm, and record the species from Andean, Caribbean and Pacific regions. Its broad native range extends across southeastern Panama into Colombia, with populations occupying wet tropical environments at varied elevations.
## Landscape character
The solitary palm form gives this species an upright tropical character suited to warm, humid settings with room for a full crown. Its native ecology is wet tropical, so site it where local climate and available moisture can support that type of palm.
## Maintenance
Allow the palm to retain its natural form. Keep healthy leaves in place and remove only dead or damaged fronds with clean tools, taking care around the crown.
