Cubano™ Cristo Cuphea hyssopifolia

Cubano™ Cristo is a Cuphea hyssopifolia selection with tiny tubular magenta flowers and a compact evergreen habit. Heron's Head Nursery lists plants at 12–18 inches tall and about 18 inches wide, with flowering from spring into fall. ## Flowers and placement The small flowers are held among fine foliage and attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. The nursery recommends the selection for containers and hanging baskets, where its flowering stems can be viewed close up. Its height and spread suit the front of a bed or a modest patio pot. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun to part shade and provide medium moisture. The RHS describes the species as a spreading evergreen shrub suited to sun or partial shade and sheltered, well-drained sites. Container soil dries faster than garden soil, so check it regularly in warm weather. ## Maintenance Use the nursery's medium-water guidance as a starting point and water before the root zone dries completely. Protect container plants from prolonged cold where they are not hardy.
