Cubano™ Presidente Cuphea hyssopifolia

Cubano Presidente is a named Cuphea selected for a long display of color and strong trial performance. The University of Georgia Trial Gardens recorded high ratings through its 2024 summer evaluations and noted both all-season color and hummingbird interest in September. ## Flowers and placement The cultivar was evaluated in a sunny ground planting and earned a Classic City Award. Goldeman’s Greenhouse lists Cubano Presidente at 10–12 inches tall and 12–15 inches wide, a compact size for the front of a seasonal bed or a small patio container. The trial page does not identify a flower color, so the plant is described here by its observed display rather than a specific shade. ## Growing conditions The greenhouse grows Cuphea in full sun and reports it as suitable for pots. The RHS species profile describes Cuphea hyssopifolia as compact and spreading, with evergreen foliage, and recommends sheltered sites with well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone evenly moist while plants establish and allow excess water to drain. Check container soil more often during hot weather.
