About Smooth Arizona Cypress

Blue Ice Arizona cypress is an evergreen selection with aromatic, silvery-blue foliage, reddish stems, and a dense pyramidal outline. It can become a substantial tree, so plan for its long-term spread as well as its strong vertical growth. ## Mature size and setting Published size estimates vary with tree age and growing conditions. The American Conifer Society records a plant about 15 feet tall and 8 feet wide after ten years; Oregon State University notes that it may reach 25 feet, while a Texas nursery lists mature trees at 30–40 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide. The reported mature widths span roughly 10–20 feet across sources, so allow lateral space as well as vertical clearance. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. ## Water and use The cultivar tolerates heat and drought once established, but it needs regular watering while roots develop and during extended dry periods. Its blue foliage and upright shape make it a strong accent or vertical screen; leave space for the crown to broaden with age. Hardiness estimates also differ, ranging from USDA Zone 5 in an Oregon State profile to Zones 7–10 at one Texas nursery, so use local experience when selecting a site. Avoid poorly drained ground, which the Utah State profile identifies as unsuitable. Pruning is usually light; remove damaged growth and allow the natural pyramidal crown to develop.
