Create design onlineAbout Golden Weeping Monterey Cypress Tree
‘Coneybearii Aurea’ is a golden, weeping selection of Monterey cypress with fine, pendulous foliage. The trade name ‘Saligna Aurea’ is used for this same selection, so the catalog’s common name and parent relationship are retained while the botanical cultivar name is standardized.
## Cultivar and size
The [American Conifer Society database](https://conifersociety.org/conifers/cupressus-macrocarpa-coneybearii-aurea) identifies Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Coneybearii Aurea’ and notes that it is sold under the name ‘Saligna Aurea’. It describes a golden, thread-leaved, weeping form, about 10 feet tall and 5 feet wide after ten years, with a larger eventual size. A [Santa Cruz County tree profile](https://treesofsantacruzcounty.blogspot.com/2017/10/hesperocyperus-macrocarpa-saligna-aurea.html) documents a specimen around 25 feet tall. Existing catalog dimensions and labels are retained as approximate mature values.
## Siting
Give this evergreen selection full sun and room for its pendulous branches. Use it as a specimen where the gold foliage and cascading outline can be seen; keep the existing parent link to Monterey cypress.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and extended dry periods, and avoid pruning into a rigid outline. Remove only dead or damaged growth so the natural weeping habit remains visible.
