Scotch Broom Plant

Scotch broom (*Cytisus scoparius*) is an upright, deciduous shrub with green stems, small three-part leaves, and bright yellow pea-like flowers in spring. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/5254/cytisus-scoparius/details/) describes a typical mature height and spread around 1–1.5 m, while [North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/cytisus-scoparius/) reports plants from 4 to 8 feet in some settings. Grow in full sun and well-drained soil, including sandy or loamy ground. The RHS notes that this species provides nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinating insects.
