Daphne Shrub

Winter daphne is a compact evergreen shrub grown for dark green foliage and strongly scented pink-and-white flowers in late winter and early spring. Its fragrant flowers make this a useful shrub near paths, entrances, or seating where the scent can be enjoyed. The broad common name Winter Daphne is used for Daphne odora, and several related shrubs share similar names, so care and size can differ among named selections. Give the plant shelter from harsh exposure and avoid moving an established shrub. ## Maintenance Plant in moist, well-drained soil and mulch around the root area. Water during establishment and dry periods, keeping the soil from becoming waterlogged. Prune lightly after flowering only if needed; avoid hard pruning into old wood and minimize root disturbance.
