Carol Mackie Daphne

‘Carol Mackie’ is a slow-growing daphne valued for green leaves edged in pale yellow that fade toward cream, followed by fragrant pale lilac-pink flowers in spring. Mature spread can vary among gardens, so leave room for its branching form. This selection is useful where year-round structure and variegated foliage matter as much as its spring bloom. It prefers soil that holds moisture without becoming waterlogged and benefits from a sheltered position. The RHS lists ‘Variegata’ as a synonym and describes the foliage margin as narrow and golden, developing a creamy-white tone. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone cool with mulch and maintain evenly moist, well-drained soil. Water during dry weather, particularly while establishing. Avoid moving the shrub once established and limit pruning to light shaping after flowering.
