About Summer Ice Daphne

Summer Ice is a named Daphne × transatlantica selection with fragrant white flowers flushed pink and green leaves edged in cream. It flowers from late spring into late summer; the foliage can be evergreen in mild winters, and its appearance varies with climate. ## Landscape use Use this rounded shrub in a border or hedge where its flowers and variegated foliage can be seen. Published mature dimensions differ: the [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/167600/daphne-%C3%97-transatlantica-summer-ice-v/details) gives 1–1.5 m in height and spread, while [Monrovia](https://www.monrovia.com/summer-ice-daphne.html) describes 3–4 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide. Leave room for the broader garden-size estimate. ## Growing conditions Choose full sun, partial shade, or filtered light and well-drained soil. Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry slightly before watering again. Monrovia lists USDA zones 6–9; the RHS hardiness code is a separate UK rating. The RHS also records Daphne caucasica ‘Summer Ice’ as a synonym. ## Maintenance Protect the root zone from prolonged heat and dryness, and avoid waterlogged soil. Prune only as needed to maintain the natural rounded shape.
