Decadence® Blueberry Sundae™ False Indigo

Decadence Blueberry Sundae is a blue-flowered herbaceous Baptisia hybrid with an upright mound of blue-green foliage. Proven Winners lists it at about 3 feet tall by 30–36 inches wide, while the Mount Cuba trial measured a specimen at 32 inches tall by 38 inches wide and Iowa State gives a broader 3–4-foot range. Allow room for a mature clump because final size varies with age and site. ## Garden Placement Plant in full sun for the strongest bloom; it also tolerates part shade. Well-drained soil is important, and poor soil can be suitable. The blue spikes flower in late spring into early summer, followed by dark seed pods that extend seasonal interest. Use the plant in a perennial border or as a focal specimen where its upright form can develop without crowding. ## Establishment Baptisia grows a deep root system and can take several years to reach mature size. Water regularly during its first growing season, then provide supplemental water during prolonged dry periods. Avoid moving an established plant because its deep roots make transplanting difficult.
