Decadence Cherries Jubilee is a compact, upright false indigo with deep maroon buds that open to maroon-and-yellow flowers and age toward gold. Blue-green foliage forms a spreading mound; secondary branches on the flower stems make this cultivar especially floriferous. Proven Winners gives a typical size of 30–36 inches tall by about 36 inches wide, while the Mount Cuba trial measured a 36-inch height and 48-inch spread.
## Garden Placement
Plant in full sun or part sun in average to poor, well-drained soil. The flowers open in late spring and may continue into early summer, followed by decorative pods in fall. Its relatively compact size makes it useful in the middle of a flower border or as a small focal plant. The breeder lists USDA zones 4a–9b and notes that established plants tolerate dry conditions.
## Establishment
Baptisia develops a deep woody root system, so settle on a permanent location before planting. Water through the first growing season; mature plants are long-lived and usually need little additional care except during prolonged drought. Allow for some variation in size: the published trial and nursery dimensions differ, and growing conditions affect mature spread. See the [Proven Winners cultivar profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/baptisia/decadence-cherries-jubilee-false-indigo-baptisia-hybrid), the [Mount Cuba trial summary](https://mtcubacenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/23034f-Trial-Garden-Top-Performers-Baptisia-1.pdf), and [Iowa State Extension’s Baptisia guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-baptisia-false-indigo-iowa) for cultivar observations and general care.
## Maintenance
Water new plants through establishment and during extended dry spells. Cut back dead foliage in late fall or early spring. Avoid transplanting an established clump.
