About Decadence® Vanilla Cream™ False Indigo

Decadence® ‘Vanilla Cream’ is a Baptisia hybrid selected for creamy vanilla flowers and a compact, upright clump. Pastel yellow buds open in late spring above foliage that emerges bronze and matures to grey-green. The breeder lists the cultivar as USPP 25,663 and Canadian patent 5,564; its size and flowering details are documented by [Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/baptisia/decadence-vanilla-cream-false-indigo-baptisia-hybrid) and [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=BAPVC). ## Landscape Use Place it in a sunny border, native garden, or mixed perennial planting where its flower spikes can rise above lower plants. Proven Winners lists cut and dried flower uses. This is a long-lived perennial, so choose a location where it can remain undisturbed. ## Seasonal Interest Late-spring flowers follow the bronze spring emergence of the foliage. The foliage matures to grey-green, and seed pods may remain after flowering for added seasonal structure. Exact bloom timing depends on local conditions. ## Mature Size Walters Gardens gives a mature height of 2½–3 feet and spread of 3–3½ feet; Proven Winners lists 30–36 inches high and 36–42 inches wide. ## Siting and Soil Grow in full sun to part sun in average or poor, well-drained soil. Proven Winners lists USDA zones 4–9 and reports moderate drought tolerance after establishment. ## Maintenance Water consistently while the plant establishes, then during prolonged dry weather. The cultivar is described as easy care; deadheading is not required. Avoid moving an established Baptisia.
