Beaufort West Ice Plant

Delosperma 'Beaufort West' is a low evergreen succulent that forms a close mat of fleshy, dark green leaves tinged with red. Pale pink, daisy-like flowers with cream centers appear in summer in the RHS profile, while observations from different climates place flowering from spring into summer. [The RHS describes the exact selection](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/315815/delosperma-beaufort-west/details), and [Plant Delights records its distinct cushion habit and regional flowering variation](https://www.plantdelights.com/products/delosperma-beaufort-west). ## Form and seasonal interest This slow-spreading plant stays close to the ground. The RHS lists a height up to 10 cm and a spread of 10–50 cm. Plant Delights describes the named selection as an approximately one-inch cushion collected at high alpine elevations near Beaufort West, South Africa; its bloom timing varies with climate. ## Siting Provide full sun and sharp drainage in a rock garden, gravel bed, crevice, slope, or container. Loam or sandy soil is suitable when it drains freely. Avoid persistently wet ground, especially in warm, humid summers. ## Maintenance Routine pruning is not needed. Keep drainage open and remove nearby debris that traps moisture around the mat. The RHS reports drought resistance, but water during establishment and then only as needed to prevent prolonged drying in the local climate.
