About Fire Spinner® Tricolor Ice Plant

Fire Spinner® is the named Delosperma selection ‘P001S’, recognized for multicolored flowers with orange petals and purple centers over bright green, spreading foliage. Plant Select reports spring flowering with additional flowers appearing periodically through summer, and lists the plant for sunny sites in USDA zones 5–9. ## Flowers and Form The fast-spreading foliage forms a low carpet about 1–2 inches tall. Width sources differ slightly: Plant Select’s plant story gives 12–18 inches, while its profile gives 14–18 inches. The current 12–18-inch label preserves the broader documented range. Flowers are most abundant in spring, with later summer flushes possible. ## Growing Conditions Use full sun to part sun and well-drained loam, sand, or gravelly soil. Water moderately during dry summer weather and avoid wet winter conditions, which can cause dieback. Gravel mulch is preferable to bark mulch for this selection. The [Plant Select profile](https://plantselect.org/plant/delosperma-p001s/) and its [Fire Spinner plant story](https://plantselect.org/plantstories/fire-spinner-a-flame-in-the-garden/) describe the exact cultivar, seasonal display, and garden culture. ## Maintenance Let the mat spread, and replace any gaps if desired. Keep winter drainage open and remove damaged growth after cold, wet conditions.
