MESA VERDE® ice plant is the named Delosperma ‘Kelaidis’ selection, valued for its compact, vigorous growth and iridescent salmon-pink flowers. Plant Select identifies it as a hybrid sport and gives a mature size of 1–2 inches high by 10–14 inches wide, so it works well as a low, spreading groundcover.
## Flowering and placement
Flowers appear in early summer. Plant Select lists full sun or part sun, USDA zones 4–8, and use in western gardens; its low cushion also suits sunny rock gardens and the front of a dry border. The profile records winter interest and notes that pollinators benefit from the flowers.
## Growing conditions
The plant grows in loam, sandy, or gravelly soil and accepts moderate-to-dry summer conditions. Choose a well-drained site because winter wetness can cause die-back. Gravel mulch is preferable to bark mulch for this selection.
## Maintenance
Plant Select reports no routine annual maintenance and recommends letting the plant spread. Check the mat occasionally and fill bare spots with new plants if desired. The [Plant Select profile](https://plantselect.org/plant/delosperma-kelaidis-pp-13-876/) confirms the cultivar name and PP 13,876; the [RHS genus profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/5373/delosperma/details) gives broader Delosperma family and growth-form context.
