About Ocean Sunset™ Violet Ice Plant

Ocean Sunset™ Violet is a spreading ice plant selected for a high flower count and large, vivid violet blooms. Darwin lists this named selection for spring through late summer flowering, full sun and USDA zones 5a–9b; its flowers close at night and reopen in midmorning. ## Garden Use Its compact 4–6-inch height and 10–12-inch spread suit a sunny container, rock garden, or border edge. The showy blooms make it useful where a low mat of seasonal color is wanted. ## Growing Conditions Give it a sunny position and sharply draining soil. Water lightly and let the planting dry between irrigation; Darwin describes the selection as very drought tolerant once established. It is a perennial ice plant for zones 5a–9b, with bloom from spring into late summer. The cultivar is sold as Ocean Sunset™ Violet and carries breeder code T1854 and patent PP34,730. See the [Darwin Perennials product profile](https://www.darwinperennials.com/products/Plantinfo/?phid=022009280005764) for its selection-specific details. ## Maintenance After establishment, limit watering to prolonged dry spells and avoid persistently wet soil. Allow room for the mat to spread, and remove damaged growth if winter wetness affects the plant.
