Dasante Blue is a first-year-flowering Delphinium elatum with compact upright stems and true-blue blossoms accented in light purple with white centers. It flowers in early spring and spring; its compact size—28–34 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide—suits sunny borders, patio pots, and cut-flower beds.
## Flower and use
The [PanAmerican Seed product profile](https://www.panamseed.com/products/022105600000616/delphinium-dasante-blue/) identifies the blue selection and supports greenhouse, field, and garden cut-flower production. Its compact habit gives a vertical flower spike where a broader delphinium would take too much room.
## Site and soil
Give it sun and fertile, evenly moist but well-drained soil; avoid ground that stays saturated. The [RHS species profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/5398/delphinium-elatum/details) describes Delphinium elatum in full sun and a sheltered position. Protect the stems from strong wind and heavy rain, and leave air around the foliage in humid weather.
## Maintenance
Stake plants where the site is exposed, then remove fading flower stems back to side shoots. Delphiniums can be susceptible to slugs, aphids, leaf miners, and crown rot, so inspect new growth and keep the root zone draining freely. All parts are harmful if eaten; handle with care. See [NC State Extension's D. elatum guidance](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/delphinium-elatum/).
