Delphi Blue is a blue-flowered Delphinium elatum selection. This tall, upright herbaceous perennial has deeply lobed leaves and stiff flower spikes, and it performs best in full sun and fertile soil with good drainage ([RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/5398/delphinium-elatum/details); [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/delphinium-elatum/)).
## Garden use
Use the upright flowering stems in borders, cottage gardens, wildlife plantings, and cutting gardens. The flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds, adding movement and vertical color to mixed perennial plantings.
## Growing conditions
Choose a sunny, sheltered site with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Protect tall stems from strong wind and heavy rain; good drainage and air movement help limit common disease problems. [RHS cultivation guidance](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/5398/delphinium-elatum/details) and [NC State growing notes](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/delphinium-elatum/) provide additional growing detail.
## Maintenance
Stake stems to keep flowering spikes upright and deadhead after flowering; cutting spent growth back after it withers can encourage another flush. All parts may be harmful if eaten, so wear gloves when handling.
