Summer Nights is a compact, bushy perennial larkspur with bright blue to violet-blue flowers held above a low mound. Its early-summer display suits sunny borders and containers, especially where the soil remains evenly moist yet drains well.
### Flowering and placement
The exact named selection is described by the [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/234391/delphinium-summer-nights-summer-series/details) as a short-lived perennial around 30 cm tall and wide, with bright-blue summer flowers. [Bordine’s 2026 plant guide](https://bordines.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/BORDINES-2026-PLANT-GUIDE.pdf) lists an 8–12 inch height and 12–18 inch spread with violet-blue flowers in June. Use the compact habit at the front of a sunny border or in a well-drained patio container.
### Growing conditions
Give it full sun and moist but freely draining soil in a sheltered position. Water during prolonged dry spells, and avoid leaving the roots in saturated ground. The flowering stems provide a clear blue accent among white, silver, and soft yellow perennials.
## Maintenance
Deadhead faded spikes to keep the plant tidy, then cut back old stems after flowering. The RHS notes that this delphinium can be harmful if eaten, so site it thoughtfully around children and pets.
