Goldenhange is a named tufted hair grass selection; a nursery inventory records the exact spelling as Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Goldenhange’. The species is a cool-season perennial with fine leaves, dense tufts, and loose, airy flower panicles. See the [nursery inventory](https://thievonproducts.com/wp-content/uploads/Inventory/INVWallaWalla.pdf), [Morton Arboretum’s species guide](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/tufted-hair-grass/), and [University of Illinois Extension profile](https://web.extension.illinois.edu/hortanswers/plantdetail.cfm?PlantID=605&PlantTypeID=3).
## In the garden
Use this fine-textured grass in a naturalistic border or mixed planting where its airy stems can move above lower plants. Species guidance describes foliage mounds about 1–2 feet tall, with flowering stems reaching roughly 3 feet. Tufted hair grass prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade; full sun can discolor foliage, and hot, dry conditions can reduce performance.
## Maintenance
Water during dry spells and keep the soil from becoming parched. The grass is most active in spring and fall, and may remain semi-evergreen in mild winters while going dormant in colder locations. Cut back old growth before spring regrowth in mild climates, or from late autumn to early spring in colder ones. These are broad species-level care notes; the exact color and mature habit of this named selection can vary by site.
