Nikko is a named selection of Deutzia gracilis, also called Nikko slender deutzia. Oregon State University describes it as a low, dense mound about two feet tall and roughly twice as wide, with abundant pure-white flowers in spring.
## Form and seasonal interest
The low, spreading habit can work as a groundcover or at the front of a shrub border. Abundant spring flowers rise over the mound, and the leaves may turn red in fall. The Oregon State profile gives approximate dimensions; allow space for the broader spread as the plant matures rather than treating it as an upright shrub.
## Planting notes
The source identifies the cultivar and its approximate size and seasonal features but does not give a USDA hardiness range or a detailed universal soil and exposure prescription. Match the planting site to local conditions and provide enough room for the plant’s width. Do not confuse this selection with other deutzias that have different mature forms.
## Maintenance
The opened Oregon State profile does not specify a pruning schedule. Avoid routine shaping that would remove spring flower buds unless the plant’s growth and flowering cycle have been checked locally.
