About Coolvista™ Dianella

Coolvista™ is the named Dianella revoluta selection ‘Allyn-Citation’ (PP22965), grown for blue-green, grass-like foliage and purple berries. UC Davis reports a 1–2 ft mature size, while its two-year trial plants were larger at both California sites, so allow room for the cultivar’s spreading growth. [The UC Landscape Plant Irrigation Trials profile](https://uclpit.ucdavis.edu/dianella_Allyn-Citation) identifies the exact selection and describes its growth and seasonal flowering observations. ## In the garden Use Coolvista where its fine, upright foliage can soften a border or add year-round structure. In the UC trial, flowering peaked in spring and continued into summer, with timing and duration differing between the two sites. The profile also notes that the small purple berries are not edible. ## Growing conditions UC Davis evaluated the cultivar in full sun. The record’s existing full-sun and part-shade guidance is retained; provide a well-drained site and room for new growth to spread from the base. The trial’s reported mature size was 1–2 ft high and wide, although plants measured after two years reached 3.2 by 2.5 ft at UC Davis and 3.5 by 2.75 ft at South Coast REC. ## Maintenance In late winter, remove dried flower stalks from the previous year by gently folding the foliage and clearing the loose stems near the base. Check the plant periodically for dead stalks and give it space to develop its looser, spreading outline.
