About Dash™ Pink Dianthus

Dash™ Pink is PanAmerican Seed’s pink-flowered selection of Dianthus barbatus, identified by selection code PAS951121. It has an upright, well-branched habit and fragrant blooms, with the Dash series’ compact height and spread for containers or small sunny beds. ## Form and flowering The breeder lists the Dash series at 15–20 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide and notes that Sweet William type Dianthus flowers without vernalization. Its pink flowers distinguish this selection from the Magician, Violet, White, and mixed offerings in the same series. Dianthus barbatus grows well in loam and tolerates slightly alkaline conditions; partial shade may help during hot summers. Avoid persistently wet soil around the crown. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower heads to extend the display. Sweet William can be biennial or short-lived perennial, often grown as an annual; allow a few seedlings to replace older plants where a continuing display is desired. For a named selection, use vegetative propagation because seed-grown plants may not retain the same characteristics.
