Dash™ Violet Dianthus

Dash™ Violet is PanAmerican Seed’s violet-flowered selection of Dianthus barbatus, identified by selection code PAS951123. It shares the series’ upright, well-branched habit and fragrant flowers, with a compact size suitable for containers and sunny borders. ## Form and flowering The Dash series is listed at 15–20 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide. PanAmerican Seed describes it as a Sweet William type that can flower without vernalization; its Violet selection is distinct from the Pink, White, Magician, and mixed selections. Dianthus barbatus grows well in loamy soil and tolerates slightly alkaline conditions. In hot summer climates, partial shade can reduce stress; avoid a site where water remains around the crown. ## Maintenance Deadhead spent clusters to keep the plant neat and encourage additional flowering. Sweet William can be biennial or short-lived perennial, and seed from a named cultivar may not reproduce the selection reliably. Use vegetative propagation when keeping the Violet selection true to type is important.
