About Telstar Purple Pinks

Telstar Purple is a color selection in the F1 Telstar™ dianthus series, with purple fringed flowers on compact, branching plants. Takii lists Telstar as a chinensis × barbatus hybrid for packs, bedding, and landscape displays, while UF/IFAS treats Telstar as an annual garden pink. ## Garden Use Plant in full sun or part shade in improved, well-drained ground or containers; the series tolerates acidic to slightly alkaline soil and can grow in sand, loam, or clay. Takii gives a garden height of 8–10 inches, and UF/IFAS reports a broader 1–2-foot spread for the series, useful when spacing a massed edge. ## Flowers and Season The Purple selection adds rich purple color to the Telstar palette of fringed, carnation-like blooms. UF/IFAS notes slight fragrance and describes northern use from spring through fall, with fall-to-spring display in Florida. ## Maintenance Grow it as an annual and refresh bedding or container plantings after flowering. Keep the planting open enough for the rounded form to show, and cut stems for small arrangements.
